FONTANA ARTE

Luigi Fontana established his company in Milan, where he produced float glass for the construction industry, in 1881. The company initially manufactured refined, tailor-made and one-off glass design accessories.

Gio Ponti, former editor of the journal Domus, was asked to take over the company's art direction in 1931. Ponti played an important role and different pieces that he designed are still in production today. These include the 0024, Bilia, Pirellina and Pirellone lamps and the Tavolino 1932 coffee table.

Another FontanaArte bestseller that looks so contemporary that it is hard to believe how long it's been around: the Luminator. Pietro Chiesa came up with this design in 1933.

Over the next decades, new products were launched on a regular basis, became icons and consequently they are still being produced. The famous egg (Uovo)? It's more than 40 years old.

FontanaArte is still creating new products that we can safely assume will become new design icons in the lighting industry in the future.
